Dérive Naturel
“In a dérive one or more persons during a certain period drop their relations, their work and leisure activities, and all their other usual motives for movement and action, and let themselves be drawn by the attractions of the terrain and the encounters they find there.”
Guy Debord, 1958.
Since learning about the Situationlist International, the Dérive has been an exercise I engage with while I wander a city space. It has been a great process to guide how I think about the act of aimless wandering. This practice has allowed me to discover new cities and observe details that I often overlooked in my day to day life. Through these wanders I have always been drawn to finding moments of nature in urban settings. Dérive Naturale is an ongoing photo project where I capture those moments of nature that I encounter. It is my goal to encourage others to also participate in the exercise of walking around cities and and encountering interesting moments of nature.
